Nanfang College of Sun Yat-sen University was jointly established as an independent college by Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangdong Pearl River Investment Inc., under the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is a tertiary institution providing full-time study for Bachelors students of 17 different majors.
  Located in Conghua city, a suburb of Guangzhou, the campus covers an area of 1000 mu, (approximately 165 acres). The college has planned to build a total floor space with a capacity of 460,000 square meters, in which 313,400 square meters have been completed and put into services. There are well-equipped classroom buildings, laboratories, indoor and outdoor sport areas, as well as a multiple-purpose library, in which there is a collection of 400,000 books as a well as 685 periodicals, 159 categories of newspaper and nearly 3,000 kinds of CD-ROM resources. It can also share the huge resources of 1.46 million E-books in the e-library of Sun Yat-sen University. The advanced infrastructure of the college has laid a solid foundation for improving the level of teaching, research, and management which benefits both the staff and students.

  Seventeen undergraduate programs are currently being offered by 7 departments, namely: Chinese Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Electronics Communication & Software Engineering, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics & Business Management, and Public Administration, currently totaling 12,700 students. The student population is planned to reach 18,000 within the next 2 to 4 years.

Nanfang College, like SYSU, attaches a great importance to developing practical skills and creativity and aims at cultivating talent with diversified skills to meet the demands of modern society.

We have adopted a training mode which integrates courses of general knowledge with technical and specialized training in every major. It is our aim to give the students of Nanfang the most comprehensive and socially credible education that will prepare them for their career choice or allow them to aim for further study. Meanwhile, in order to develop all-round talent with international vision, the college provides the best of foreign educational resources by cooperating with universities in America, Britain, Switzerland and various other countries, giving reciprocal credits and collaborating as far as possible. There are some courses that use English or bilingual education, to help integrate them with overseas educational theories and systems and to meet the requirements of international standards.

  Although Nanfang College is relatively new, it carries with it the insight and progressive vision of the older institutions. With a teaching staff that includes both the traditional and experienced professors from the major universities and the bright and motivated younger teachers from good universities both in China and the West, the college has a broad syllabus to offer in all subjects and a dynamic classroom experience that equals any top level college.
